School breaks up!

So today, the kids broke up from school at lunchtime. Apparently, it all gets very tearful at noon as many families leave shortly after the end of term, so I opted to be a bit late and miss the mele. Neve was invited to a 'sayonara' party by a girl in her class who's leaving, so Felix and I dropped our things off at the apartment got changed out of our work / school clothes and went for lunch at the McDonalds by the station, watching the water dripping off the air-conditioning units on the trains. They do prawn burgers here, which are rather tasty, and grape soda (which is not, but Felix likes it, and hey it's the end of term)

Felix and I had a really nice afternoon wandering around the various shops and sights in Shibuya and Harajuku. Uniqlo is really big here, and they have a specialist T-shirt shop (UT) where all the T-shirt designs are displayed on big racks in the middle of the shop: there are 3-floors of racks and racks of T-shirts in tubes - quite clever really, becuase they never need to re-fold or display the T-shirts, and you get a natty little tube when you buy your T-shirt! Anyway, having struggled for a while to get Felix a nice T-shirt (he's fast growing out of last year's T-shirts, and many of the boys clothes here are really naff - Micky Mouse and Donald Duck-esque - really not what Felix will wear!) we discover that XS Japanese Men are Felix-sized, so he really does have a fab selection of T-shirts. The ethos of UT is that T-shirts should make you feel great, and are a reflection of your inner-self (they have a cute little paragraph of prose explaining this, to which I'm probably not paying justice!) Anyway, the long and short of is that they have a huge selection of T-shirts and stock which changes frequently. We wanted a 'Hoppy Beer' T-shirt, but this was a limited edition which has been phased out, so we got a funky 'Crispy Choc' T-shirt. Anyone visiting us should pay a visit and take home a souvenir T-shirt!

We also paid a quick visiti to the H&M sale (my new fave shop as the clothes fit me) bought another summer frock in teh sale! Felix had great fun in the changing room nicking my clothes and then throwing into the locker next door (thinking it was mine, and got rather told off!)

We finished our trip with 'Tacky Shitty street' where we bought some gifts for the little girl who was leaving. Went to pick Neve up, and was 'forced' to drink 'just one' glass with the mother who's leaving and another mother (of 4!) with a child in Neve's new class. Another mansion apartment, another house-keeper, more talk of holiday homes around teh globe, and a rather nice glass of two of wine!
